  • Bhagat Singh’s 116th Birth Anniversary.

About Bhagat Singh:

  • Bhagat Singh was born on September 28, 1907, in Banga, Punjab (present-day Pakistan).
  • He was one of the most revered martyrs of the Indian independence movement.
  • He was a fearless revolutionary who dedicated his life to the cause of freedom.
  • At the young age of 23, he was sentenced to death by the British government in the Lahore conspiracy case.
  • At the age of 12, Bhagat Singh had seen the JallianwalaBagh massacre, after that he took a vow to free India from Britishers.
  • After witnessing the brutal beating and death of LalaLajpat Rai, Bhagat Singh and his fellow revolutionaries pledged to take revenge.
  • Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru targeted John P. Saunders (who was mistaken for James A. Scott) police officer responsible for Lala’s death.
  • All three revolutionaries were executed in secrecy on 23 March 1931.

 

       BEST TOURISM VILLAGES

 Why is in news?

  • 35 villages awarded Best tourism villages.

About the Best tourism villages Award:

  • The Ministry of Tourism held an award ceremony at the Bharat Mandapam on the occasion of World Tourism Day.
  • The ministry held a global launch of ‘Travel for LiFE’, a sectoral programme under ‘Mission LIFE’ (Lifestyle for Environment).
  • It was launched in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
  • 35 villages have been chosen as the ‘best tourism villages’ in three categories — 5 (Gold), 10 (Silver) and 20 (Bronze).
  • Two villages in the State – Vettaikaranpudur in Coimbatore district and Hullada in the Nilgiris received bronze medals for the best tourist villages from the Tamilnadu.

WORLD TOURISM DAY 2023

World Tourism Day is celebrated on September 27.

The theme for this year is “Tourism and Green Investments.”

  • World Tourism Day was established by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in 1980.

 

 TAMIL NADU STATE BIODIVERSITY BOARD

Why is in news?

The State government recently reconstituted the Tamil Nadu State Biodiversity Board.

About the Tamil Nadu State Biodiversity Board (TNBB):

  • TNBB was established in 2008 as an autonomous, statutory and regulatory body of the Govt. of Tamil Nadu for the implementation of Biodiversity Act, 2002 in Tamil Nadu.

It included three special invitees from

  • The Industries Department.
  • Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries Department.
  • Member secretary of Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board.
  • The Minister for Forests will be the chairperson of the Board.

About Agro industrial corridor:

  • Tamil Nadu Government announced a ₹1,000 crore plan to promote agri-related infrastructure.
  • It is established in the Cauvery basin region from Trichy to Nagapattinam.
  • The region was declared an agro-industrial corridor.
  • Aim: Boost agro-based industries, from packed foods to frozen foods.
